I was contact by my long-time “dog friend”, Lisa, about a very special pooch with a very unique story. If you are plugged into the Fort Wayne dog world, then you have certainly heard of the very handsome Chewy!

Unfortunately, Chewy is in his older years and now has some dementia which is affecting his quality of life almost daily now. Thankfully he is well enough that a photography session to capture this sweet pooch was still an option! The Faithful Friend Photography Session is a specific session for older pets or those who are terminally ill. I make every effort to schedule these sessions on short notice and within days or even same day because that is how important these sessions are to me because I know how thankful you will be to have an beautiful portrait of your pooch or cat – they are a shorter session and focus on beautiful classic images of your pet to ensure you have some great photographs to cherish for years to come, even after they are gone.

Look at that sweet fluffy face!

Lisa and Terra have been the main humans in Chewy’s life in the recent years.

These two are in the top list of those doing selfless acts and speaking for those who have no voice. THANKS for all you do – you are saving pooches and being a voice where help endlessly needed!}

I had Lisa and Terra share with me again about Chewy’s story:

I met Tim and Chewy when he came into a clinic I was working at. He needed vaccines for Chewy and told me he needed whatever a foster pet would need, because he was putting Chewy in foster care because he needed to go into a program for awhile. He said his program was 1 month and the foster was for 2 weeks, so he was really hoping they would like him, so he could finish. I couldn’t help but feel for him and took an immediate liking to Chewy, because he looked just like a dog I use to have. While he was in the room with the Vet, I asked my roommate if it was okay if I fostered a dog and got a hold of Terra to see if she could help me. A lot of life happened in between. Terra and I took turns for 2 years having Chewy in our homes and then I had him for 2 straight years. I wondered what happened to Tim around 2 years ago and decided to try and find him on Facebook. I knew he always loved Chewy and did whatever he felt was best for him. Unfortunately, he just couldn’t take care for him at times. I did find Tim and sent him a message asking if he would like to see Chewy. Of course he did and I met with him within the week. I never saw Chewy as happy as I did that day. Tim was stable and in a great living situation, so I asked him if he would like to have Chewy back. With a lot of tears, we agreed that it was best for Chewy and Tim that they be reunited. Tim and Chewy had a wonderful year together. Terra and I visited and made sure that they knew we were here to support them. Unfortunately, Tim unexpectedly passed away. It was a shock to Terra and I and very sad for for both of us. I wanted to take Chewy back, but he and my dog weren’t getting along anymore, so Terra agreed to let him stay at her house. We tried to find a new home for him, but there wasn’t any interest. He has been a permanent resident at Terra’s home the last year. Chewy has been through a lot, but he has been loved very much for 15 years.
Lisa’s Personal Tribute to Chewy:
Chewy has taught me a lot about the what having an animal in your life means to people. Chewy’s Dad was often homeless, living in hotels, addicted, but always put him first. He had purpose with Chewy and never stopped loving him. Chewy has been a real challenge at times, because he isn’t your typical cuddly dog. Every show of affection is a huge victory and makes you feel like you won the lottery with him. He has been such a wonderful addition to my heart and I will be forever grateful that I was able to care for him and love him for these past 5 years.
Terra’s Personal Tribute to Chewy:
I had no idea what I was getting myself into when my friend Lisa made a Facebook post several years ago, asking for temporary help. There was a gentleman in need and I didn’t have any fosters at the time , so I said ‘why not?’ We got off to a rocky start, I think he was missing his dad and very slow to trust me. All these years later, I couldn’t have imagined what Lisa, Tim, Chewy and I have been through together. We shared Chewy between us for several years, through Tim surrendering Chewy, to Tim getting Chewy back, the sudden loss of Tim and then with Lisa and I opening our homes one final time…I can honestly say that Chewy has been the easiest dog to care for(after the initial “getting to know you” phase and adjustment). He’s been with me through so many foster dogs and kittens, he’s a very gentle boy. Sure, he’s got his quirks, but don’t we all?! Grooming just isn’t his thing and he’s not a snuggly boy, but he shows me his devotion by following me all over my home. He adores going on walks, even though he moves at a snail’s pace these days. Twice, we attempted to find him a forever home. Once when Tim ultimately determined he couldn’t care for Chewy, and once when Tim passed away. Due to his advanced age, no one stepped up. No worries, he was always welcomed here. My family just loves this sweet and gentle boy, my mother frequently uses the little angel emoji when referring to him…he’s just that sweet.

Thank you for allowing me to photograph sweet Chewy!
